BT IP Profiles

Last update 10 December 2011

Ever since ADSL Max was introduced, BT Wholesale has had an IP Profiling system which basically takes into account the overheads inherent in TCP/IP and reduces the speed data was allowed onto the connection between the exchange and the user.

That original system is still in use for non-WBC-enabled exchanges. (WBC is explained on this page).

With the advent of Openreach FTTx Openreach introduced a more modern IP Profiling system to run on the DSLAMs in the FTTx network.

During 2011 BT Wholesale modified their system to be very much like the Openreach one, and introduced this gradually onto all WBC (21CN) connections.
